We've been in the Virginia Beach area for the last couple days and stayed at Fort Story - isn't this old lighthouse great?

While there we took a walk from our cabin past the lighthouses to the beach.  I love going to the beach during the winter - it's so different - even though the temps in the 60s was far from wintery.  Of course I had my camera along on our walk and played with my macro lens some more :-)

First trip to the beach for Layla

Not sure what this is - some kind of ocean flotsam and jetsam

I love this girl!

We were in Virginia Beach to see my brother's change of command at Norfolk.  He just finished command of the USS Cole.  I am ENORMOUSLY proud of him :-)

  1. I, too, love the beach in winter...I actually prefer it to the blazing summer heat! Tell your brother "thank you for serving"...I mean that with the utmost sincerity!

  3. I love the beach in winter too. We lived for 3 years near the "Port of Beaumont" in TX during the first Gulf War years. Not a beach at all really, but you would see the military ships being prepared. Drive a bit further and you could find actual beaches though. I enjoyed it because we would often be some of the few people there. Summers would be too crowded!

Thanks for the photos and story. Each photo is so special in it's own way--from leaf closeups to smiling faces! And this all reminds me I better get busy putting together my "i Heart macro" page!

P.S. Sure do love your banner, by the way, and the wonderful items that arrived from your shop yesterday! I'm truly delighted! --Sharyl
