The lovely Miss Lori of Pretty Things is kicking off another Bead Soup party, and I was lucky enough to get to play! My partner is Eva Sherman - wow - is she one talented lady. She teaches around the country and owns a bead shop...when I grow up I want to be JUST like her :-)
Eva sent me two heart stopping copper pieces - a focal and a clasp - and a rich string of carnelian lentils. What to do, what to do! The pieces were so so stunning, I literally could have strung them on a leather cord and been done. How to accentuate the wonderful copper while still making sure that you could see it? How to be simple while not being simple, make sense?
Life got a little busy so I set the pieces aside, but somewhere where I could see them and continue to ponder. Then I got a great box of goodies from BBFF (first B=bead :-)) Jen V. that held a bag of sari silk, including a deep blue length with hints of purple. I was definitely going to use that, and then pulled out of my stash some recycled glass I bought from Happy Mango Beads ages ago. The holes were large enough I could string the silk through the beads. I decided to use the rich blues on one side (seems to be my thing right now) and the carnelian with tiny blue-green seed beads to help tie it together.
As I finished the necklace I looked down and on my messy table was some turquoise waxed linen, and in no time at all a pair of earring were made. Thanks Eva for such great ingredients!

What a fantastic necklace! You're right about how amazing those copper pieces are. Blue is the perfect color to set it off. I'm a huge sari fan, so I really appreciate the textural juxtaposition going on. And sweet earrings too! Well done :)
ReplyDeletesuper fabulous!! The copper components are to die for! I love how the copper looks with that beautiful blue silk! Great job on these!
ReplyDeleteThe blues and copper go so well together. And that sari silk added a nice lush touch. Lovely bead soup set I have to say. Great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat work. I love the copper components too. The earrings are so fresh. I would wear them for sure!
ReplyDeleteCilla (#24)
Love the asymmetry of your necklace, and for years I've been a silver gal, but I really love the copper now...maybe my new favorite metal! Love the turquoise with the copper too!
ReplyDeletegreat color palette, I love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm a partecipant from Italy, I'm trying to visit all of you.
this was really a great experience!
ciao ciao
Oh WOW love the copper and blue-yummo!!! Beautiful silk and wonderful earrings!!
ReplyDeleteElisabeth, what a way to combine your bead soup mix with the goodies that Jen sent upon your promotion (and CONGRATS on that!!!)... what a clever way to tie in the colors from each side, by adding the blue seed beads in with the Carnelian. And I like how you highlighted the beautiful metalwork by adding the toggle clasp to the front where it would be scene. What a beautiful bead soup creation!!
ReplyDeleteLike your necklace.
ReplyDeleteWow insanely cool focal and clasp! You definitely did them justice!
ReplyDeleteElisabeth,
ReplyDeleteWow you did a fantastic job with your bead soup. I love the blue with the copper and carnilian, just simply gorgeous!
Therese
I love the way you have put the colours side by side rather than completely mixed them. I also love the mixed medium. Beautiful necklace :) x
ReplyDeleteElisabeth, I love copper, it is my new favorite material to work with. The focal and clasp are great! You did a wonderful job with your ingredients. Have fun hopping around to the other blogs.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Lori D.

What a bold color combination! I love what you created, so unusual and original!
ReplyDeleteAwesome projects! The earrings are so unexpected!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic job. I love those colors together, although, I would never have thought to do that myself. The necklace is so bright and cheery!
ReplyDeleteThe silk fits perfectly! Your work is one of my favorite during the blog hopping! Have a nice day, Hugs, Doris
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I like that you kept both copper pieces together for more impact. And those earring are darling!
ReplyDeleteLove the colourcombination. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh, my, Elisabeth - this is stunning. I love the blue / copper combination, it is so rich and elegant! I must overcome my fear of mixing media - you've truly inspired me.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, really neat design! Love the blue and orange color combination!
ReplyDeleteVery nice work and I love the color combination!
ReplyDeleteLove the design! The colors are so rich and I love the asymmetry of the necklace, you did a fabulous job of finding a great balance of "simple while not being simple."
ReplyDeleteWow that necklace is spectacular! I love how you made it "two-tone"--all the blues together on one side and all the reds together on the other seems to have much more impact. The silk was a perfect companion to the tidy coin beads. And that clasp! Coolest ever! I love the rustic, organic looking patina and how that contrasts with the clean lines and textures of the beads. Really striking piece of jewelry. I also love your earrings! And I'm not usually a fan of string in earrings. Makes me want to overcome my string phobia!
ReplyDeleteHey Elisabeth, I love the necklace you created with your bead soup. I too love the handmade metal components. I have never worked with ribbon. I love how it tied every thing together!
ReplyDeleteI love this color combination - great design! The earrings are charming.
ReplyDeleteturquoise and copper always make heart so happy~ Those are both so great looking and both look comfy and casual, yet elegant for everyday!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Copper & carnelian - how could you go wrong! Beautiful with the blue.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning design, I love it! Those copper pieces she sent you are amazing and you did them absolute justice with your gorgeous necklace. I really like how you slid the glass beads over the silk, brilliant! And the color combination is gorgeous. Very fun and contemporary, right up my alley! The earrings are fantastic too. Really great set-well done Elisabeth!
ReplyDeleteBold summery color combination, love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the color combination. The earrings are super cool - I'd wear those in a heartbeat!
ReplyDeleteI love what you made with your beads!
ReplyDeleteAnd you are right, those copper pieces are just gorgeous! A real eyecatcher!
The carnelian and turquoise go really well together and definitely set off the copper. It's a surprising combination to me. Great job.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth - what can I say? Your necklace is beautiful. The holes on those beads must have been just right to be able to string the silk. It is just beautiful. And the copper - perfect. I love carnelian too so love that it was included and adding the blue seed beads was the perfect addition to bring it all into balance. Great job.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty color combination. Love the necklace.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVE that bright blue with that deep orange - gorgeous!! And I adore the asymmetry!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Great color combo and great asymmetry!
ReplyDeleteI love how you used turquoise waxed linen on the earrings. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love that you were able to string the beads directly onto the silk ribbon. I imagine that is not always do-able. And the blue/orange combo was really nice, too! :)
ReplyDeleteAlesha
