When you travel in the classiness that is today's commercial air carrier world, what kind of airport arriver are you? I think most fall into two camps:

1.  Arrive no earlier than required, and frequently later than is reasonable, sometimes requiring a change from long term to short term parking, and maybe a dash down to the gate.

2.  Take the suggested arrival time, add about 20 minutes, then another 20 minutes because there are 4 humans traveling together or there might be a random traffic jam, often arriving at the airport with enough time to eat an entire sit down meal before the early boarding is called.

My beloved husband is often a #1, and I am a #2.  I was raised by an extreme #2 (6AM flight usually means a requested 4AM drop off which means a 3:15AM leave the house time) so I try to temper my #2 tendencies, but I can't help it.  I KNOW what a hassle being very late for or missing a flight is, and I hate when it's a possibility.

So it's no surprise that we arrived at the Manchester, NH airport about 2 1/2 hours prior to our flight.  Greg suggested some options to kill time, which I was trying my best to poo-poo, until he said, "There must be  bead store around here, right?  Want to go wander for a few minutes?"  Dirty trick, but oh so effective.  Sure enough, that part of New Hampshire has a couple bead shops, including The Bead Patch, which is a mere 15 minutes from the airport.  Like many LBS's, it was small and tucked in the back, second floor of a building, but their web site pointed out some landmarks that made it easy to find.

It was the most organized and well marked bead shop I have ever been into.  I am terrible at remembering what I paid for what once I leave a shop (just check out how many "faceted stone" and "yellow stone" type descriptions I have in my Etsy shop), and the Bead Patch has computer generated labels on each strand of each item they have displayed.  Greg remarked, "Oh, I thought you would just be looking, not buying" but is that even possible? I thought I exercised enormous restraint:

I got this and that glass beads (in love with the orange and red flowers), tear drop seed beads I have been fascinated with since Lorelei's last challenge, some howlite rondelles, some rainbow agate ovals, and turquoise and red rondelles marked "sedstone."  They seem kinda like coral, are likely dyed, but I could not find any reference to sedstone on Google, except for maybe a tie to India, but nothing that obvious. Anyone know anything more?

HEY!  Don't forget that BEAD SOUP is THIS SATURDAY.  Stay tuned to this space for the awesomeness that I made from Linda's soup, links to all of the other soupers (cooks?) and a giveaway that I will be having.  It will be all about focals and clasps.  Have a great week!

  1. I think you showed remarkable restraint. After all, he was the one who suggested the bead shop in the first place! :)

  3. Sometimes you have to meet in the middle. I was raised by a #2 but I'm a #1 with #2 tendencies. I say your hubby gets bonus points for suggesting a bead shop. Very good man!
