I went out for a "run" tonight.  I am "training" for a 5K "race" Emma and a friend and I will do next Sunday.  It's still cool here - grrr - but the spring flowers are stubbornly sticking to their schedule.  I found one small tulip and stopped "running" to take a picture.  Definitely taking pictures made my run much more enjoyable.  Then after a large beer and a wonderful dinner, I had fun playing with different black and white filters...

But really deep down I like color best...

Here's the original...

And here is where you can find more great examples of black and white...

  1. It's a beautiful picture and the black and white really does highlight all the details on the tulip gorgeously. Great job!

  2. Wow, the contrast between colour and b&w! You can really see the form of the plant in b&w, then you get the blast of colour - wow!!

  3. I do like both the color and the black and white. But the layers of texture in the black and white shots are beautiful.

  5. Love the way you graduated from black and white to color. And congrats on your running. Years ago when I was that was my preferred sport, I would always cap off a good workout with a frosty beverage or two as well.

  6. Wonderful photos. I strongly feel that B&W photography is under utilized. As I look back on some of my Mother's old B&W photos, I realize there is a classic style about them that would be lost if they had been taken in vivid Kodachrome color.
