Or maybe this should be called, "The evolution of an obsession" :-)  Let's start from the beginning...

Here is what my desk usually looks like.  It's in the office I share with my husband.  Slowly but surely the computer and other household papers have been shoved to the left resulting in complete disarray.

And then I took my first lampworking class.  I was advised that as soon as you try it you either love or hate it.  Me - complete love! After using the garage and the gazebo, I decided that a permanent indoor lampworking station was required (required!).  I made a workbench of sorts in the downstairs laundry room,  next to a door I could open for ventilation.  You can kind of make it out in the lower left of the picture below.  Over time I added a kiln and an OxyCon to my growing collection of equipment.  A job change for me was the kick in the butt we needed to start a long discussed remodel.

The washer and dryer got a new home, and the old laundry room got turned into this! (that's the same exact room - can you believe it?) In the cabinet above the torch is a powered exhaust, and the old laundry sink plumbing remained so that a nicer sink could be installed.  We need to drill a hole in the countertop for the OxyCon cord - then it won't be snaked around the sink.

Here's a close up - I have wall space to permanently hang my fair banner, and there is a cool wall with light to highlight an artist made bust my Mom gave me a couple birthdays ago.

Here's the other side of the room - a second work area where I've moved all my jewelry making supplies.  There is a double lazy susan in the bottom corner cabinet that is a great place to store spools of wire.  All arts and crafts supplies have now been moved to this room - those drawers on the left hold all the kids art supplies.

The tall cabinet on the end also holds my sewing machine, wrapping paper, etc. (all cabinets are from Ikea). I LOVE the new exterior glass door - I keep thinking I left a light on in the room and it's actually the natural light coming in.  The slatted doors on the far left are part of the new wall that hides the water heater, HVAC, etc.

The "beer fridge" has been moved into my studio - this corner is really perfect for it - and it is not a bad thing to have adult beverages close by :-)  It's also standing in as my bead wall until we get some sheet metal hung up.  Emma learned the hard way that if you slam the fridge door or bump up against this then they will come tumbling down.

And here is what my office desk looks like now - looks bare doesn't it? The sheet metal from my bead wall will stay on the wall and has become a family bulletin board - there is too much to keep track of to keep it all on the main kitchen fridge :-)  Plus, I would have to fill holes and paint if I took it down.

What do you think?  Time to get cracking making some beads!

  2. I love your new office and that metal bulletin board. It looks so organized! And I'm so jealous of your studio. I had dibs on my son's bedroom when he went to college but my husband stole it even knowing I wanted it for the big windows. He has papers on every flat space in our home including the kitchen table, island, bar and even my own small desk. Sounds like we need counseling......

    Enjoy your new space!!!
