The lovely Sally at the Studio Sublime is hosting a wonderful challenge - pick one of the basic crayon colors as inspiration and exercise your creativity.  I pulled out all of the green glass rods I own and got to work. Some greens looked good together, others not so much, but I did end up with two groups of beads that looked good together.  Most of my efforts went into making beads and toasting them overnight in the kiln - so I went with bracelets since as of last night I only had un-executed ideas in my head.  I pictured hemp as the stringing material for the first group, and I know I have a ball of it SOMEWHERE, but could not find it ANYWHERE.  Luckily I had just enough SoftFlex green wire to to make my first bracelet work.

I added an extra bead at the clasp to give it more umph.  My friend Lori Anderson is all about balancing the focal and the clasp on bracelets (see her great post here), so she definitely was my inspiration.  The other set of beads don't really qualify as monochromatic...call them mono-tone-matic?  I had some dark blue waxed linen so I got to try the idea I was going to try on the first one (where is that dang ball of hemp twine???).  I added large green seed beads between each bead and dug up a vintage button that matched the waxed linen as the clasp.  I am digging the green seed beads and the button together.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST...to celebrate my blog-o-versary, I am GIVING AWAY this set of hand made, kiln annealed beads that I made my very self.  Leave a comment on this post and I will have a drawing on May 10th.

Thanks for checking out what I made, now work you way down this wonderful list to see other great colorful entries:

  4. Have you found the hemp yet? LOl, I know that feeling all too well, don't you hate that? Lately I found it is easier sometimes for me to buy another than try to find the first, which usually appears the minute the new one is in the house! I love the beads on the blue cord, really makes it pop!

  5. Beautiful bracelets. I really like how they are strung on the softflex - it gives them such an airy feeling and they look like they would be comfortable to wear. If you still can't find your hemp, just go buy another spool and I guarantee you will probably trip over the old spool as soon as you walk in the door.

I would love to win your handmade beads - thank you for the opportunity to enter.

  6. The bracelets are both beautiful. I love your handmade beads and all the different shades of green. One of the cool things in the challenge was discovering the tons of different shades of one color and seeing which worked and which didn't.

  33. The beads are vibrant! Fun colors too. For me I prefer the tighter construction method of the second bracelet, just more my style. I am impressed that you made the beads AND made two bracelets - as I know you are a busy gal...
