A couple months ago I stumbled upon the Just Something I Made blog, the creative home of Cathe Holden. It was the link to her Easy Pea Pod Pendant (Cathe's picture below) that quirked my interest and I've been hooked ever since.
The leather for the pea pod? Cut from a thrift store bought shoe. Isn't that the coolest? Cathe seems to find potential in all kinds of thrift shop and flea market booty and makes the most amazing things. My subscription to her blog lagged her move to a new blog platform, but I have just resubscribed, and you should too!
While not quite the same creative leap of one of Cathe's usual projects, I was shopping at a home goods kind of store and came across this stuck randomly on one of the end caps:
Cool orange and pink paper beads, a kid-friendly project meant to be strung on the included elastic string. For $1.07, I grabbed three!
And it was a kid-friendly project, as Emma did the stringing for me, using a large resin focal (a prize from a design contest - probably from Happy Mango Beads) and some peachy orange lined large seed beads I had on hand. I haven't added a clasp yet, but you get the idea:
One question - the paper beads don't have any kind of protective coating. Should I spray them with a craft sealer or cover with resin (which I don't know how to do)? I kind of like that they are not shiny, so I am still pondering this. I hope the last half of the week is great for you all!
You can cover them in matte Mod Podge. It's not shiny and it will dry clear (though it goes on white) Just paint it on with a sponge brush cuz you'll have to throw the brush away. Cute necklace!
