Happy Mango Beads is having another great contest - Trash to Treasure! They always come up with really fun themes. One of the categories is Compost Happens! – natural, organic, sustainable. Part of our wild cross-country end-of-summer vacation was an afternoon at the beach in southern Virginia.
Between taking lots of pictures of my favorite people, I picked up anything on the beach that seemed interesting, and ended up with a nice collection of shells. I brought them home, soaked them in bleach and water to clean them, and then sprayed them with a sealer. The sealer brought out the rich oranges in the shell I picked out as a starting point, and the ocean had already made a nice hole for me to add a bail without resorting to glue or a drill. Copper wire and suede cord picked up the warm colors in the shell, and I finished it off with two stones my bead bud Jen gave me when we swapped a bit of this and that after Bead Fest Wire Philly in April. Garnet maybe?
Happy Mango posts the pictures regularly on their Facebook page - so check there often!
Great idea, the orange color of the shell and the copper bail works well together. I would like to hear what you have to say of your experience with FB, and for your comments you might win a necklace. So stop by my blog sometime and please share your thoughts. Enjoy the weekend!
